Across the Desert on a Bike and a Plastic Bag
Long distance rider Lael Wilcox doesn't need much when she bikes —just a backpack of chips, water and energy bars, and basically a huge plastic bag insulator that keeps her warm at night. With only those for company, she took the 220 mile Arizona Trail from the Utah/Arizona border, across endless open plains, and carried her 33-kilo bike through the Grand Canyon, where riding is prohibited.
She did not finish the race due to health limitations, but that in no way stopped her from continuing what she loves. She’s still biking, joining races while traveling, and mostly living off the grid.
